Construction of a new ground-up pre-engineered metal building and drone development and testing facility for the Maricopa County Community College District. The college built a new facility to accommodate drone pilot training — The work included the design-build of a 50 foot tall netted UAV flight enclosure over an existing 31,000 SF concrete pad west of Bluford Hall at the Williams Campus of Chandler Gilbert Community College. In addition, the work included the design-build of a 1,500 SF pre-engineered metal building to function as a support building for the UAV flight enclosure. New electrical power feeds/ data conduits were routed from the adjacent Bluford Hall to the new building.
The work also included the renovation and expansion of three existing open-air Aviation Test Cells as well as the addition of three additional open-air test cells at the ground level (located in the parking area north of Bluford Hall); and construction of a new metal canopy; installation of chain-link fencing; and routing of electrical power, a compressed air feed, and data conduits from the adjacent Bluford Hall.
NEW CONSTRUCTION
PHOENIX, AZ
ARCHITECT - SPS+ ARCHITECTS
This project included construction of a new 4,426 SF store and office building. The facility serves as a public check-in location for the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, replacing the existing 1960’s building, which was developed on an occupied site and designed around the facility’s existing vegetation and parking layout. The new facility is a pre-engineered building with masonry walls. This type of construction promotes an airy yet efficient layout with mercantile and public use at the front of the building. It also provides ample sized offices and conference rooms located on opposite ends of the building. A staff lounge was strategically placed near the main entrance to allow volunteers the ability to unwind without disrupting everyday business operations. High performance acoustic windows were installed to mitigate outside noise from the nearby firing range from entering the store and office areas. The use of wood plank baffles also has acoustical properties while providing a sophisticated and earthy feel to the interior space.
